USSI'N YALA

Stories / Shame

This photo series explores the notion of identity and belonging within the Muslim community.

Created in collaboration with the young designer Chadi Meystre, we highlight the imprisonment in which religion has compartmentalized men, who still today live to the standards of a backward society, macho, homophobic, where men would be lynched for having dared to wear a dress or look “too” feminine.

We both consider that an appearance, a gender, a sexuality should not prevent us from sharing the same culture, the same language, the same traditions, the same roof.

We wanted to portray the modern man. A brave, fierce and fearless man who explores and assumes both his femininity and masculinity.
